Creating a workspace

There are two ways into belsimple: a manager invites you to a workspace that already exists, or you register a workspace of your own.

If you were invited

You’ll receive an invitation email with a link. Clicking it either asks you to choose a password, or sends you straight to your organisation’s single sign-on provider — whichever your workspace uses. Once that’s done your account is active and you can sign in.

Invitation links are valid for 5 days. If yours has expired, ask the manager who invited you to send a new one.

Registering your own workspace

New workspaces start on the Solo plan, which is free and holds one user — it’s meant for a single researcher, a freelancer, or a one-person company. To work with colleagues, you move to a paid plan.

On the sign-up page, fill in Email, Password, Confirm password, Full name and Workspace name, accept the End User License Agreement, and click Create workspace. Two things are worth knowing before you start:

  • The workspace name has to be unique across belsimple, so a very generic name may already be taken.
  • You can register one free workspace per email address.

Verifying your email address

After you register, belsimple shows Check your inbox! and sends a verification link to the address you entered. Signing in only works once you have clicked that link. Until then the sign-in page rejects your password without explaining why, so if a password you’re sure about is refused right after registering, an unclicked verification link is the usual reason.

The link is valid for 24 hours. If it expired, or the email never arrived, use Didn’t receive verification email? on the sign-in page to request a fresh one. Requesting a new link invalidates any earlier one.

If your email address is already known to belsimple

If you already have a belsimple account — because you were invited into someone else’s workspace, for instance — the sign-up form recognises your email address and asks for your existing password instead of a new one. In that case there is no verification step: the new workspace is ready immediately, and you choose between your workspaces after signing in.
